Using her degrees in and knowledge of the sciences, Emeagwali became the co-author of several notable journals. Emeagwali’s scientific accomplishments so far include the discovery of the existence of isozymes of kynurenine formamidase in the bacterium Streptomyces paravulus. Prior to her findings, these bacteria were only known to exist in higher organisms. She also proved that cancer gene expression could be inhibited by antisense methodology. She believed this conclusion can lead to better treatment of cancer in the future. In the field of Virology, Emeagwali worked with a DNA virus and discovered the overlapping of gene expression.
